Rajkumar College, often called RKC, is a distinguished historical and educational landmark in Rajkot, established on December 16, 1870, and inaugurated in 1872. Conceived by the British administration and supported by princely states, its initial purpose was to provide a modern, Western-oriented education to the sons of Kathiawar and Gujarat's rulers, aiming to cultivate loyal and efficient future leaders. It stands alongside Mayo and Daly Colleges as one of India's premier "Chiefs' Colleges."
Architecturally, RKC is a magnificent example of Victorian Gothic revival style, subtly infused with Indo-Saracenic elements. Designed by Colonel Sir Richard John Bradford, its imposing structure, built with red sandstone, features an iconic clock tower, grand arched verandas, spacious halls, and extensive, well-manicured grounds. The design reflects a unique blend of British aesthetic and Indian context, creating an awe-inspiring and functional educational environment.
Post-Indian independence in 1947, Rajkumar College adapted from an exclusive institution to a co-educational public residential school, affiliated with the CBSE. It continues to uphold high academic standards, focusing on holistic development, character building, sports, and co-curricular activities.
