Born in 1959, he had his schooling at various places in India.

He did his Bachelor of Science with majors in Botany, Chemistry and Zoology in 1979. In 1981, he obtained Master of Business Administration from the Faculty of Management Studies, University of Delhi specializing in marketing and Computer-based Management Information Systems. In the same year, he joined Vardhman Spinning and General Mills, a leading composite (Spinning and weaving) textile mill in India as Sales Executive.

He joined the Indian Foreign Service in August 1982 and has served in the Indian Missions as Third Secretary in Buenos Aires(1984-1986),as Second Secretary in Maputo(1986-1989), as First Secretary in The Hague (1989-1992), as First Secretary/Counsellor in Lima (1995-1996), as Counsellor in Caracas (1999-2002), as Deputy High Commissioner in Singapore (2002-2006) and at the Ministry of External Affairs as Attaché in Europe West Division (1983-84), as Deputy Secretary in Gulf Division (1992-1995) and as Director in Africa Division (1996-1999).

He joined as Deputy Permanent Representative in the Permanent Mission of India to the World Trade Organization in Geneva on 8th May, 2006.

His areas of interest are economic and commercial diplomacy and trade promotion.

He has extensively traveled in Europe, Gulf region, Africa, Asia and Latin America.

He speaks fluent Spanish and knows Portuguese.

He likes reading, listening to Western and Indian classical music and walking.

He is married and has a son and a daughter.
