Shakti Statue
Shakti Statue is sculpted by world famous Jasu Shilpi, the Bronze lady of India. The Statue is a creative Art Piece depicting the "Human Power" (Manobal Shakti) capable of spinning the planet earth into orbit.

It is piece of fine art, standing tall in circle opposite multi story building at Race Course. The work is sponsored by Leading Industrial house AVR-Vikram Valves Pvt. Ltd. Rajkot.

Watson Museum

Watson Museum
Watson Museum In 1888, it was decided build a museum in fond memory of Colonel John Watson, Political Agent of Saurashtra form 1881 to 1889 A.D., for service he rendered to the cause of Saurashtra. The museum is set up in the Memorial Institute Buildings located in Jubilee Garden. Watson Museum of Rajkot is the second most important museum in Gujarat, after the museum of Baroda and is the oldest museum in Saurashtra. Colonel Watson was fond of his history and archaeology and used to collect information on Rajkot. Most of his collections and other artifacts are prserved here.

 

Aji River
Aji is the most important independent river of Saurashtra. The word Aji is derived from Sanskrit 'Ajijiaa' (literally meaning mother). Origniating from the hills of Sardhar and Lodhika region, it travels through Rajkot, Padadhari and Morbi Taluka of Rajot district and meets the Arabian Sea near the village Ranjitpara Jodiya Taluka of Jamnagar District.

Rashtriya Shala
Rashtriya Shala was established by late Sir Lakhaji Raj Thakore Saheb in 1921 A.D. The new building was innaugrated in presence of Gandhiji in 1925 A.D. There were three purposes of Rashtriya Shala - to give education in accordance with thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi; to carry out Satyagraha movements for country's independence struggle and to prepare students as soldiers for development of country. Library of Shri Mahadev Desai is one such institute that houses books and articles related to Gandhi's thoughts for development of character of the new generation. Since 1935, Khadi based activities are being carried out here. It is well known for the famous Patola weaving centre. Today it has developed into a campus that instils co-operative attitude and self help idioms. There are numerous institutions running under its banner.

 

Kothi Compound
In 1822 A.D., British agency was established in Rajkot under the Colonial rule. This Agency was officialy known as Kathiawar Agency. The British Political Offices and Residential area for officers was located at the present day Kothi Compound. It also housed their military cantonment. This area was just outside the old fortification and near to the railway stationboth favourable to Brtish establishment and their scheme of things. Today the campus houses Customs and Railway Offices.

In 1892, Chief Engineer of British Agency, Sir Robert Bell Booth, renovated Bedi gate built the present three storied clock tower.

 

Christ Church
The Christ Church, Rajkot was consecrated on the 17th February 1849 by the Rt. Rev. Thomas Carr D.D. the first Bishop Bombay. This church was built to cater to the needs of the European Christian Community stationed at Rajkot during the British regime. The members of the Christ Church English Congregation hail from different parts of teh country. Thus, this church has a very cosmopolitan character. During the year 1970 on account of the church union in northern India, this church cam under the aegis of administrative control of the Gujarat Diocese. Since then, this church has grown considerably and at present services in English and Malayalam are being conducted regularly every Sunday by the Marthoma Church. Apart from providing a place of worship to the Christian community in Rajkot, this small and beautiful church is one of the well maintained churches in Gujarat.

Alfred High School

Alfred High School
Originally called 'Rajkot English School' was established on 17th October 1853. By 1868 A.D. it became a full fledged high school and came to be known as the rajot High School in 1886. It was named Alfred High School in the late 1907. The present buildings of the Alfred High School were built for Kathiawar by HH the Nawab of Junagadh in memory of H.R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh. This School was opened in January 1875 by H.E. Sir Philip Wodehouse, KCB, Governor of Bombay. The architect of this imposing structure was Robert Bel Booth.

 

Rajkumar College
Established by Col. Keating, British Political Agnet in 1868, it imparts education up to the higher secondary level. The main intention of establishing this college was to teach the princes' to rule their state better in future when they become King. In 1938, it became an open institution. The Rajkumar College (also known as RKC) in Rajkot is one of the oldest K-12 institutions in India today. RKC has a 26 acre campus located in the heart of Rajkot City. Most of the buildings are built in the Indo Gothic. The Bhavsinhji Hall is worth a visit. It houses large oil paintings of the princes who studied here. The foundation stone was laid in 1868 and college was formally opened in 1870. The College's flourishing history of 136 years has had students from all walks of life. In 1938, on the initiatives of its founding members, the college became a public school (Private in Western terms) the first such college to do so. The college itself is a founding member of the Indian Schools Conference.

Ashapura Temple

Ashapura Temple
This temple, dedicated to the chief deity of ruling Jadeja clan, Ashapura matta. is located opposite Ranjit Vilas Palace. The temple was built by Thakore Sahib Dharmendrasinghji in 1935-36. It has twelve pillars and an open mandap. The arches resemble the maratha style of architechture.

 

Kaba Gandhi No Delo
This is the house where Gandhiji's father, Karamchand Uttanchand Gandhi (Kaba Gandhi) lived while in Rajkot, serving as Diwan(Prime Minister) to the King. Gandhiji himself spent a few years of his early life here from 1881 to 1887. This is a typical Saurashtra 'dela' type house with a central approach from an arched gateway. It was built in 1880-81 A.D. Today, the place house an interesting photo essay of his life.

Sir Lakhaji Raj Memorial 'Bapu Nu Bavlu'
Sir Lakhaji Raj, the benevolent ruler of Rajkot died on 2nd February 1930 after ruling for 22 years. In homage to this great ruler, the people of Rajkot built the 'Lakhaji Raj Smarak'. A marble statue was erected and is known as 'bapu nu bavlu'. The sculptor of this beautiful statuewas V.P. Karmarker from Bombay. It was inaugrated on 21st April 1934 by his son, the then Thakore saheb of Rajkot Shri Dharmendrasinhji.

 

Masonic Hall
The Masonic Hall House houses the Free Mason's lodge. It was called 'Lodge Kathiawar'. The building of this lodge begun on 1st January 1906. It was inaugrated in September 1906. At that time, the Honorable Sir Lawrence Hugh Jenkins, was the District Grand Master of Bombay. Mr. H.S.Davies, was the architect of this building.

Jam Tower

Jam Tower
A tower with a clock was donated by Jam Vibhaji, Ruler of Jamnagar in 1880 as a gift to the British Agency. And hence is known as Jam Tower.
