The police said Imran Udhva (21), a second semester mechanical engineering student and Ravi Parmar (22), a BCA student, had a simple modus operandi. They would first win the trust of boys living in the hostel and rented rooms, and then visit their place frequently.
"In the past eight months they have stolen close to 80 mobile phones of students residing in private hostels on Kalawad Road and University Road. | |
They even stole cellphones of students living in rented rooms," said the Pradhyumannagar police who arrested them on Sunday.
The police said they both hailed from Mithapur in Jamnagar district. They also never stayed at one place for long so as to find new 'victims' and remain out of the circle of suspicion.
While the police have recovered 10 stolen cellphones from their present accommodation on Kalawad Road, it is estimated that they have sold more that 70 stolen cellphones already. They money they made from the sale of the stolen cellphones supported their extravagant lifestyle.
