A court has sent both of them in 10 days’ remand. Ramani, a resident of Purusharth Society on Kotharia Road had got married to Gita only last month.
The police, which through available circumstantial evidences, had come to the conclusion that the body was not Ramani's but Salat's, had been waiting for DNA reports to establish the identity of the victim. The arrest of Ramani, however, has solved the mystery, they say.
The police said that Ramani reportedly fell in love with Patel a year ago, but his family forced him to marry Gita about a month back. As his family would never have allowed him to settle down with Patel, he decided to elope, but only after hatching a fake murder plan to mislead the family members.
Police said, as advised by Pathan, Ramani found Salat and convinced him to work in his factory at Atika from January 5 for a daily wage of Rs 200. Minutes after Salat arrived at the deserted factory, he was stabbed, strangulated with a wire and later his face and body charred to prevent identification.
But circumstantial evidences like Salat's shoes and footprints of Ramani's shoes revealed that he might be alive. Meanwhile, a complaint by Salat's father that his son has been missing since January 5 increased the chances that it was Salat who was killed at the factory. The police have dispatched blood samples of parents of both Ramani and Salat to establish the identity, and are awaiting the results to establish Salat's identity.
