Rajkot, February 1 Most of them have just attained adulthood, but their crime record is nothing less than that of a seasoned thief. The Una police in Junagadh district have arrested six youth, five of them only 18 years of age, on charges of stealing motorbikes. |

The police suspect that this gang, which is likely to have more members, has a network spread across Saurashtra and is involved in nearly 50 cases of auto theft.
Following an increase in motorbike thefts, the police initiated a drive and caught some youth whose behaviour appeared suspicious on Thursday. The police said that during interrogation, they admitted to stealing 14 bikes in the last 12 months.
Those arrested include Sahed Pathan, Daduhaji Mansuri, Yusuf Bloch, Sajid Ibrahim, Feroz Pathan and Sakil Fakir. “Except Bloch, all are mere 18-year-olds,” said an official, adding that all are residents of Una. | |
According to the police, they worked as a gang to steal and sell the bikes. But so far, it is not clear as to who is their leader. They added that the modus operandi was that two of them would keep a close n watch on a target. And on finding the target’s motorbike parked, one of the members would ride away with it using a master key. They used to then hide it at one of the gang members place for a few days.
“The strange part is they have managed to sell some of the bikes by giving stamp paper proof to the buyers. Two buyers, who later came to know that the bike they bought was stolen, abandoned it to avoid legal hassles,” said an official, adding, “The gang members were using some of the bikes themselves by making a few modifications such as fake number plates.”
