Rajkot, May 22 Two officials of the Social Welfare department-run Adarash Residential School-cum-Ambedkar Women's Hostel have been issued a showcause notice asking why they shouldn't be suspended following the rape expose of a minor student by the hostel watchman Amara Bathwar. |

Bathwar, who raped her on a number of occasions in the last three months, had allegedly lured the class X student into a sexual relationship. The hostel inmates blew the lid when they caught the watchman red-handed with the girl in the hostel kitchen.
The Social Welfare department officials said here on Thursday said that Rajkot district Backward Class Welfare Officer S F Macwan has been transferred and served a suspension showcause notice along with rector in-charge Gangaben Kimsuriya, superintendent at the tailoring school-run by the department. | |
The departmental inquiry led by Social Welfare department Joint Director L M Damor revealed that the rector in-charge rarely visited the premises located on Kalawad Road. Senior officials said that even though Macwan was aware that Kimsuriya did not visit the hostel regularly, he had done nothing about it.
Meanwhile, Rajkot district collector has ordered a separate probe in the matter and sought for a report within a week's time. While Bathwar has been taken in judicial custody, the residential school has been closed down temporarily in the absence of a rector.
Inaugurated in 2004, the residential school and hostel, which housed nearly 200 girls, had been functioning with a full time rector since its inception. Bathwar was one of the two watchmen at the hostel.
